DIME’s Third Student Leadership Meeting took place at the Universidad Anáhuac Querétaro, this being one of the first universities that partnered with us in our commitment to create educational opportunities for young people in contexts of forced displacement.
This year, the Leadership Meeting served as a space dedicated to the integration of DIME’s student community, comprising the refugee students of our Habesha Project and Habesha Americas programs and the Mexican students that belong to our network of Student Committees.
In total, 29 Habesha students, 14 Committee representatives, and 7 DIME team members participated in this multi-day event. Moreover, 14 speakers and workshop leaders from 4 different organizations intervened, including the Sparkassenstiftung, GIZ, Asmovilidad, and La Otra Bandita.
The joint effort of all these actors reflects the interest of the Mexican and international civil society in creating welcoming communities and educational opportunities for refugees and people in other mobility contexts.
Some of the events and activities that took place during this Leadership Meeting were conferences on mental health, self-care, and interpersonal skills, workshops on decision making and entrepreneurship, a cultural market, among others.
It is worth mentioning that this year the DIME’s Council for Refugee Students DIME, made up of students from our Higher Education programs, took an active role in the planification of the event, learned about our internal processes, and offered their feedback. Likewise, for the first time, three members of the DIME student community participated as workshop leaders during the Meeting.
